Sante Fe No. 5021 "Texas" 2-10-4 is one of the last steam locomotives to be purchased by the railroad in the final years of steam. This locomotive entered service in 1944 as part of an order of 26 similar locomotives from the American Locomotive Company. It operated in regular service until 1957. No. 5021 features a one piece, cast-steel frame, disc-type driver centers, and roller bearings. The rigid frame makes the locomotive more suitable for long straight stretches of rail, such is found in deserts and plains.
